“If real is what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then ‘real’ is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain” – Morpheus, The Matrix
We humans live under a powerful misconception. We believe that we live in reality. But of course we don’t. I wear glasses to correct imperfect vision. I take medication to alter my brain chemistry to help control how my brain processes the information it receives from the world around it and shapes my mood. Our human hardware, and the software that runs it, are notoriously glitchy and subject to malfunction. And that is even before we include something truly terrifying, the scale and scope of the universe and its intolerable indifference to our own wants and needs.
“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.” – HP Lovecraft
The universe is unconcerned with humanity, a reasonably clever primate on an pale blue dot orbiting an unremarkable star in an unremarkable galaxy. We are not important. And much of our modern thoughts have been concerned with hiding from this fact. Much of our culture has been built to prop up the the idea that humans are the center of the universe. This isn’t true. In fact it is provably false, but much of our culture is devoted to perpetuating this lie. We are marinating in this culture. We are marinating in this lie. Modern Culture is a lie shielding the human mind from the truth of reality.
Ohto County on the other hand is a lie that filters the truth of reality into a form which the human mind can process. Modern Culture is a lie designed to imprison. Ohto County is a lie designed to liberate.
Ohto County is a hammer thrown against the thin veneer that is Modern Culture. And once modern culture has had its veneer cracked, there is no repairing it.
“Behind this mask there is more than just flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea… and ideas are bulletproof.” – Alan Moore, V for Vendetta
