The Firebird in the Code of the Flame

The Firebird: (The Creator of Mystery) I remain humble and seek to be corrected.

You may believe that gods and monsters are real beings or fictional entities. They still represent ideas important to the culture. The Firebird is the creator of Mystery, and is Mystery personified. The Firebird reminds us how little we know. Whenever we push back our ignorance, we expand the frontier of what we do not know. The more we learn, the more we realize we do not know. As we extend our knowledge we expose our ignorance. Every discovery generates more mystery than it resolves. 

And so we must remain humble. We are always wrong. We can seek to reduce the degree to which we are wrong, but we are always wrong. We may be more or less wrong, but we are always wrong. And so we must remain humble. We must seek out corrections. We must seek to have our errors exposed. We must attempt to bring our ignorance to light. In darkness our errors and ignorance can harm us. Brought into the light, we can account for them, and seek to reduce or remedy them.

Pride is the enemy of learning. Humility allows us to become greater. If we refuse to be corrected, we will remain wrong. If we refuse to be humble, we will resist correction. 

This does not mean that we allow others to bully us. This does not mean that we accept all criticism as valid. We are always wrong. This means I am always wrong. This means you are always wrong as well. The degree to which we are wrong will vary. And I may be less wrong than you. So while I seek to be corrected, I do not accept all corrections uncritically.  I have no desire to accidentally become more wrong as a result.

I am humble and not a doormat. I seek correction, and not abuse.
