Questions and Answers About the Big Why

What is the Meaning of Life?

How could we know? How could anyone? We would argue that the meaning of life is to choose and pursue a meaning that resonates with your soul. The Meaning of Life is found in the making of it. You will not find it outside yourself. Not even in what we have to offer here. Our goal is to provide you with the tools and techniques to craft your own meaning, not a packaged meaning for you to accept. We do not offer salvation. We do not offer absolution. We do not promise a paradise in the hereafter, or any other eternal reward.

We don’t even offer a map to the meaning we all seek. Instead, we offer the tools of the map maker and examples of others who have found their own meaning before you.

If we are pressed, then we can say that the meaning of life is found in the extending of the flame. To keep the story alive, to keep telling the great story of the flame to another generation. But to do that you must find a more specific meaning for yourself. And so again we are left selling you the tools of the map maker and the ideology of the explorer.

What is point of living?

This may seem, on the face of it, to be a ridiculous question. But it is truly an important question. What gets you up in the morning? Why do you step up and face the day? We all know that there is an alternative. You do not have to go on living. You can choose not to go on living. And people make this choice every day. We don’t like to talk about this option as a culture. Suicide is a taboo. Suicide is often declared a crime. We don’t look at it that way. Having a reason to continue living is essential to any warrior and to the achieving of a life well lived. We feel that hiding from the question results in people trudging through lives they do not wish to live. We believe that not facing this question results in lives not worth living.

The benefits to living a life without choosing why you should come to the people who have convinced you not to examine your life. People who live unexamined lives find themselves living lives for the benefit of would-be kings and corporate overlords. The unexamined life is the life of the drone. You must, again, choose why you continue living. You must, again, decide what you wish to pursue with your limited time on earth. If you fail to choose, others will choose for you. If you are fine with that, then so be it. But if you are fine with that, then we have nothing to offer you.

What should I do with my life?

We are obviously circling around a broader question. But let’s keep circling. What should you do with your life? Here we actually have a concrete answer to offer you, in contrast to the two previous questions.

What you should do with your life is find a mission and purpose that invigorates you and which allows you to contribute to the continuation of the Flame. What you should do is build a life for yourself that leaves the world in a better condition than when you found it. What you should do is craft a vocation that helps to undo the damage caused by the Locust King and the Hungry Empire. What you should do is build a life’s work that spreads word of the story and spreads the Flame to others as it was spread to you.

That is what you should do with your life. There are many ways through which you can work towards these goals. The options still spread before you. You are not limited much by this advice. But with luck, these guiding lights will help you build your life into a thing which is both satisfying in the now, and a noble legacy for tomorrow.
