The denizens of the mythic ecology that I am building here include a group I have named Monsters. Giants and chimera and abominations, the Monsters exist to challenge the adherent. They are to be overcome, endured, or avoided. They are not beings to be bargained with readily as are the rest of the Others.
And in this distinction I find that the Monsters generate a certain aura of stoicism. I am not a stoic, but much of the Song of Seven has been influenced by my reading of the stoics. I am a strong fan of the Enchiridion by Epictetus. I hesitate to give too much space to stoicism, because it has been adopted by a group of men on the internet that I’d rather not court as fans. Still, there is much to recommend from stoicism, and I would be remis if I did not at least recommend to take a look at the Enchiridion.
