If you have read or explored this page at all, then you have probably stumbled across the Crescent Sun: the luni-solar calendar I designed for this mad project. And you may be forgiven for wondering, “Why on earth did he bother doing that?” And it is a fine question.
I did it for several reasons. First, because it was cool. Let’s get that out of the way first. It was cool, and I had a blast designing it. Second, these are cultural markers. If you wear the uniform of the Hungry Empire, you are more easily swayed to its cause. So where you can differentiate yourself from empire, I believe it is good to do so. Third, the Crescent Sun is a calendar which the individual has control over. Because the calendar resets upon the Winter Solstice, it is self correcting and does not require nuclear clocks or high powered telescopes to keep the count accurate. The Crescent Sun can be calculated by the people using it. If you know the formula, the calendar is yours. Last, the Crescent Sun creates a calendar that is adapted to the seasons and responsive to the world in which the people using it live. And so I created a calendar.
There you go.
