Fascism is Already here

I’d like to riff on the above quote. Fascism is already here- it’s just not evenly distributed. The fascists have taken aim at their first marginalized group: trans folk, and are enacting laws to criminalize the existence of trans men and trans women. This is happening unevenly. Because in some cases the Fascists are already fully in power, and in other they have partial or minimal control.

The United States is rated on the democracy index as 7.85, which is a flawed democracy rather than a full democracy. The United States has a GINI Coefficient (a measure of Inequality) of 48.5, which is startling high for a developed nation. The United States is awash in voter suppression laws, police overreach laws, and laws oppressing marginalized groups. The United States Supreme Court is currently controlled by a far right faction, who are moving to hand down ever more authoritarian decisions before their majority is curtailed.

We are seeing similar rumblings in the United Kingdom and across the European Union.
