Despair favors the empire. The empire works to create a surplus of labor. Workers who despair either remove themselves from the system (guess how), or do their labor in silent despair. The empire can deal with that. There are always new workers to replace those who despair and voluntarily take themselves offline. And those who keep working in despair will continue to turn the wheels of empire.
Edmund Burke said, “Never despair, but if you do, work on in despair.” But Burke was a conservative, a tool of empire. Nonetheless I agree with Burke. But be sure that the work you do is not the work of empire. Do not work for the master.
