Things are happening as the United States dips ever deeper into fascism. Roe V. Wade has been repealed and abortion is already illegal in six states again as I write this. I’m not going to talk about that directly. Others are doing that better than I could. Listen to them.
I am going to talk about the story that the conservatives live in. I have the sense, that most people attempt to live within the shared story where and when they find themselves. Most people adapt themselves to the zeitgeist. I don’t. I don’t at all. This causes me significant angst. But what I have noticed, is that other people do not adapt themselves as well. Conservatives choose to live in an imaginary version of an idealized past. Religious zealots live in the story of their chosen religion. They have there own hidden story. They have their own Shadowlands. And this enables them to ignore the needs of those not committed to their story. This allows them to ignore the harm they visit on those not living in their hidden story. We literally are not a part of their story.
