Phil Tippett’s Mad God

So I recent watched Phil Tipper’s Mad God.

I liked it. Though I am not certain that I understood it. This is not a review. What would be the point of that on this page? Instead, I want to muse about the value of not understanding things. Mad God was a visual feast, to use a hackneyed phrase. It was gorgeous and impenetrable. It was obtuse and obscure, and clearly this was intentional. There was virtually no understandable dialogue or text to add context to the nightmare-scape unfolding before me. And this caused my brain to search and muse and ponder. Whenever I stop to ponder something intentionally vague, or with deliberate double meaning or ambiguity, my own creativity spikes. And I think this is something well worth doing occasionally. Watch things that jar you, or confuse you, or unsettle you. Your brain needs to metaphorical candy to go spinning in circles creating new ideas. Get confused. Get puzzled. Your brain will thank you.
