I have noticed a trend in civilized thought. Despite believing that we are the most advanced humans have ever been, the collective unconscious cannot escape the belief that something is deeply wrong. Christianity imagines that humans were expelled from paradise for committing the first sin against god. Buddhists imagine that life is suffering from which the only escape is oblivion. Communism imagines that this is a dystopia awaiting a worker’s revolution. Philosophy debates problems of human freedom and the problem of evil. Wherever civilization looks, it see a broken world. Maybe the world isn’t broken. Maybe civilization is. Maybe humanity isn’t broken. Maybe its just us.
