The most prominent of the hostile Archetypes is the Locust King. The Locust King Archetype divided into twelve discreet incarnations. The First King and the Last King are the most obvious of the incarnations. But between the beginning and the end of the Locust King are ten different forms which the Locust King can take as the Hungry Empire transforms and adapts to changing times and fortunes.
The first of these minor incarnations is the War Chief.

The War Chief is representative of early post-tribal kings. Here the Locust King takes a form not too dissimilar to the leaders present in the Free Tribes. The difference between the War Chief and the chief’s of the Free Tribes is that of influence versus authority. The Chiefs of the Free Tribes have influence, not power. They are leaders because the tribe respects them and turns to them for advice. The War Chief leads because he says so and back up his words with violence.
As Thorstein Veblen noted in The Theory of the Leisure Class, the soldier and the priest are the first aristocracy. The priest threatens you in the afterlife. But the soldier merely threaten your life. And this is the stage of empire where the War Chief sits. Do as I say, or I shall hurt you. Readers unfamiliar with anthropology may be forgiven for thinking that this is how all tribes operate.
This lie is a central part of the Hungry Empire’s propaganda. What many mistake for the organization of the Free Tribes, is actually the subjugation enforced by the War Chief.
