The Darkened Court

The Dark Solstice

The Dark Solstice is administered by the Darkened Court. They are Aelfen, and specifically Sheedr: the fair folk of the Dark. Beautiful, regal, treacherous and cold, rumor says that they come from the future and feed upon the present. Despite this, the Darkened Court is known for their generosity and gift giving during that darkest time of the year. But tales of the Magus of Dark Solstice are many. Tales of his Court are told in whisperers. There is more to this solstice than stockings and gifts.

The Grandmasters of the Darkened Court

  • The Magus: The Wondermaker
  • The Four
    • The Caretaker: The Lady of the Icy Waters
    • The Messenger: The Blind Dark
    • The Mediator: The Wild Huntsman
    • The Scholar: The Cold Wind
  • The Fortuneteller: The Keeper of the Seed

All equinoxes and solstices are preceded by fast days and followed by feast days. During the fast days, the free peoples eat only soups while the sun is up, and may not drink alcohol at all. Offerings of choice foods are offered to the each Grandmaster on their fast day. On the feast days, the free peoples indulge in the same meals they offered during the fast days, and drink heavily in celebration of the Grandmasters.

The Wondermaker favors sugared fruits and sugary sweets. The Lady of the Icy Waters favored preserved fish. The Blind Dark favors strong spirits or cider, and fruit preserves. The Wild Huntsman demands meat, preferring game birds above all others. The Winter Wind asks for offerings of large animals that can endure the winds. The Keeper of the Seed prefers offerings of preserved vegetables and pickles.
