The Freepath Tribes

The Children of First Mother and First Hero. The Children of the Seven Siblings. Those who refuse to join the Hungry Empire.

The First Tribe is the Tribe founded by First Mother and First Hero. And this is true every time the First Tribe is founded. The Ancient Tribes were the Tribes after the First Tribe had spread the Laws of the Song of Seven so that the Freepath flourishes across all of Arcadia. The Last Tribes are the remnants of the Freepath who survive in the age of the City of Glass at the city’s fringes.

The Languages of the Free Tribes

The Free Tribes generally speak multiple languages within a single tribe. The languages spoken are designated: The trade language, the free language, the beautiful language, and the war language.

The trade language is used as a bridge with which the tribe interacts with the outside world. Free Tribes will typically only speak the trade language in the presence of outsiders, to protect their own languages. The tribe selects the trade language from the nearest settlement of the Hungry Empire. English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Hindi are all common trade languages.

The free language is the language spoken when the tribe members speak to each other. The tribes choose the free language based on obscurity. The idea behind the free language is that it is a language uncommonly spoken by the Hungry Empire. Indigenous languages, constructed languages, dead languages are frequently occurring free languages.

The beautiful language is the language spoken by the speakers and elders when discussing amongst themselves. The beautiful language is chosen for its pleasing sound. constructed languages such as J.R.R. Tolkien’s elven languages are common. Living languages are also common, although the languages are frequently chosen from relatively obscure languages such as Finnish, Basque, Yeyi, or Cuoi.

The war language is the language spoken when in combat. The war language is used to create a clear psychological division between wartime and peacetime, and thus minimize psychological stress and damage caused by war. The war language also serves to obscure any connection between the tribe and its warriors, minimizing the chances of retaliation by the Hungry Empire. The war language is selected for efficiency and intimidating sound.
