The Quintuple Lords of Misfortune
The Quintuple Lords of Misfortune were once the Quintuple Wise Women. They were patrons of midwives, providing fertility and safe births to those who dealt with them. They have five faces associated with the five visible phases of the moon: waxing crescent, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, and waning crescent. They were also associated with lunar and solar eclipses, and offerings presented to them on eclipses were received more readily than at other times. The Quintuple Lords are associated with serpents and vipers and human skeletons. They are also associated with the unaligned stars, those stars not linked into major constellations.
Once female, the transformation into the Quintuple Lords of Misfortune has forced them into a male role which they find uncomfortable. The Hungry Empire does not respect lunar cycles, and so they are forced to wear solar imagery that does not match their fivefold nature. Their association with fertility led to Locust King reshaping them into the Fathers of Cities. The mismatch between their maternal true nature and the male role forced upon them, that they still bear motherly traits. Imperial midwives and nurses privately call the Quintuple Lords: The Mothers of Cities. Those witched hidden in the Mirrored Cities still honor them by calling them the Chained Mothers.
All of the Lords of Eternal Summer seek their freedom. The Quintuple Lords seek their own freedom, but also seek to send their children outside the walls of the Mirrored City. And they consider all inhabitants of the Mirrored City to be their children.
