Synopsis: The Shatter Swarm are one of the truly disturbing Denizens of the Ring. Appearing as crystalline lion heads roughly the size of a baseball, with locust wings and a unicorn like horn. The Shatter Swarm, true to their name, are predators that attack in number, seeking to sting their victims with their horns, which act as a kind of psychic ovipositor.
When they infect you, they try to expel the Psychonaut while retaining the aura and the avatar via a psychic assault against the Psychonaut and their place in the story. They want the avatar, which they use as host for their brood. If the psychonaut loses the battle, the swarm infects their avatar and the avatar begins to turn to a kind of salt crystal statue. As the infection advances, the remaining skin will bubble and become loose. Swarm larva will escape through holes in the skin, lion headed maggots that feast on the skin. When the avatar is abandoned at the end of the incursion or when the psychonaut fails three resistance attempts, the psychonaut will find his avatar fully converted to salt, immobile until the new host of drones hatch.
