Conservatism Cannibalism

I am surprised that big tent conservatism works. And I am surprised that inclusive progressivism seems to have more trouble achieving the same. Progressivism is predicated on tolerance. Conservatism on intolerance. The people banding together under big tent conservatism are all planning to stab each other in the back once the progressives are defeated.

The bigots are waiting for a chance to oppress marginalized folk who joined with the conservatives. Religious conservatives are planning the oppression of their conservative atheist allies. All conservatism is built upon the oppression of women, including conservative women. And the various denominations of conservative Christianity are only civil with the other Christian groups they consider heretics so long as non-Christian enemies remain.

Conservatism is a cannibal feast where the participants have agreed to eat each other last. And I am stunned that it manages to do as much damage to the world, given the internal tension in such an arrangement.
